SCAMPER method

SCAMPER method

The SCAMPER method is an effective technique for promoting creative thinking. It helps generate new ideas and improve existing concepts.

📚 Understand the SCAMPER method

The SCAMPER method is an acronym for Substitute, Combine, Adapt, Modify, Put to another use, Eliminate, and Reverse. Each of these terms represents a thinking strategy that helps you look at an idea or concept from a new perspective. Make sure you understand each element of the SCAMPER method before proceeding.

💡 Choose an idea or concept

Choose an idea or concept that you want to improve. It could be a product, a service, a process, or even a personal habit. For example, you could try to design a new kind of bike.

✏️ Make a list of aspects of your idea.

Write down all the aspects of your idea or concept that you would like to explore using the SCAMPER method. For example, for a bicycle, this could be the tires, the saddle, the frame, the brakes, and so on.

🔄 Apply the SCAMPER method

Now it's time to apply the SCAMPER method to every aspect of your idea. Ask yourself: Can I replace something? Can I combine something? Can I adapt something? Can I modify something? Can I use it in another way? Can I eliminate something? Can I reverse something? Write down any ideas that come to mind.

💭 Reflect on your ideas

After you have used the SCAMPER method, you should take time to reflect on your new ideas. Which ones are the most promising? Which ones might actually work? Which ones are the most innovative?

🛠️ Work out your ideas

Choose the best ideas and work them out. How could they be put into practice? What would be needed? How could they be improved?

🔄 Repeat the process

The SCAMPER method is an iterative process. You can repeat it as many times as you like to further refine and improve your ideas.
