Alexander Technique

Alexander Technique

The Alexander Technique is a method for developing better posture and reducing muscular tension. Here you will learn how to apply it in eight steps.

🧘‍♀️ Developing awareness of your body

The first step to improving your posture is to develop awareness of your body. Take time to focus on yourself and feel how your body moves and how it feels. For example, you might notice that you hunch your shoulders when you are stressed, or that you lean forward when you are working on your computer.

🪑 Paying attention to your sitting posture

Pay attention to your sitting posture. Try to sit upright without straining too much. Imagine a string pulling you up from the top of your head. Your feet should be flat on the floor and your knees at a 90 degree angle. If you are sitting in a chair, your back should be touching the backrest.

🚶‍♂️ Improve your walking posture

When walking, try to keep your head up and your shoulders back. Imagine you are walking in a straight line. You should try to place your feet on the ground directly in front of you instead of turning them to the side.

🛏️ Finding the right sleeping position

Your sleeping position can also have a big impact on your posture. Try sleeping on your side with a pillow between your knees to support your spine. If you sleep on your back, you can place a small pillow under your knees to reduce pressure on your lower back.

🏋️‍♂️ Strengthen your muscles

Strengthen your muscles to improve your posture. Exercises like yoga and Pilates can help strengthen your core muscles, which are important for maintaining good posture.

🔄 Change your position regularly

Try to change your position regularly, especially if you sit for a long time. Get up and move around at least once an hour. This will help relieve tension and keep your muscles active.

🧍 Practice the Alexander Technique

Practice the Alexander Technique. It includes a series of exercises that help you improve your posture by increasing awareness of your body and its movements.

📝 Record your progress

Record your progress. It can be helpful to keep a diary in which you note how you feel and what changes you notice. This can help you stay motivated and track your progress.
